“A teacher for a day, a parent for a lifetime.”
When I was in high school, I stumbled upon this Chinese proverb in a literature class, making me apprehensive about becoming a teacher because of the responsibilities that come along with it.
However, fate just knew what to do with people who have the affinity guiding others but lack the courage – it made me a teacher, and I, myself, couldn’t believe that I would fit in its mold, like a missing piece to a puzzle.
I’m now in my 9th year as an EFL teacher. In these 9 yearsย I got the opportunity to nurture our culturally diverse young learners’ minds and facilitate practical language and communication skills classes – Exam Preparation, Skill-Building, Business, and Social Sciences. Over the years, these experiences helped me discover that I bravely celebrate and encourage difference, inclusivity, equity,ย and diversity while teaching the language. I couldn’t be more than grateful about these discoveries. My students became a huge part of my journey. It was a delight to be a part of theirs – their wins and losses became my wins and losses, too.
This is who I am now –ย bravely taking on the responsibility that comes along with this profession. With the help of my supportive and trustworthy colleagues as well as my postgraduate studies in Guidance and Counseling, I am slowly but actively creating that future where I could live by this proverb.
You may wonder what my life is like outside. If not at LCIC, I unwind by cosplaying, exploring the arts, and traveling solo. Iโve always been an old soul, so even if I cosplay I still value my solitude the most as it helps me reconnect with myself and the world.
