I started understanding studentsโ learning styles and cultures when I enrolled in the Bachelor of Secondary Education-Biology program at Jose Rizal Memorial State University – Katipunan Campus. Getting to know my students and learning from them every day was a challenge.
After graduating, I was curious about foreign culture when I started working at QQEnglish. Their enthusiasm for learning English, even at a very young age, gave me an idea of how powerful the English language is. As I taught foreign students, I was lucky to live a good life while learning about cultures outside the Philippines.
On the other hand, getting professional growth and development was not easy. I had to do six days of work while I did a self-review for the Licensure Examination for Teachers in a very short time before the scheduled examination. A year later, I enrolled in a postgraduate program at the University of the Philippines-Cebu and attended various seminars and training to enhance my professional career.
I have been teaching online English for quite some time. I have learned different pedagogies, strategies, and techniques for handling diverse students. Though tiring, the genuine laughter, smiles, and letters of gratitude from students all prove teaching as a noble profession.
After a few years of teaching English to foreign students, I ventured to Lapu-Lapu City College, where I experienced the reality of life in the Philippines. It was a mixture of good and challenging experiences that served as an avenue for more professional growth and development.
I look forward to living in a Filipino culture while learning more about a foreign culture. Enculturation and adaptation of educational best practices are some of the things I am looking forward to gaining at Lapulapu-Cebu International College.
